About
My name is Ashley Robin Trujillo (Ash Robin Truj) and I am a Painter/Dyer and Costume Crafts Artisan for Broadway, Opera, Film/Television, Dance, and Live Entertainment.
I am originally from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and am currently living in Brooklyn, NY. I found my love of costuming during a summer job in the costume shop of a local amusement park in Pennsylvania, where I first became fascinated by the process of making custom costumes for live entertainment. I love being involved in all parts of the costume making process, and am happiest when creating a fully custom garment or accessory (custom dyed fabric, painted designs, embroidery, rhinestones, beading, distressing and ageing, and of course a custom fit to the performer, character, and story), which is also why I have a deep love for the NYC costume industry.
I have experience with fabric painting, dyeing, and costume distressing from my previous work at Jeff Fender Studio, where I first started painting, dyeing and distressing costumes for Broadway (Hadestown, Aladdin, Sweeney Todd, MJ the Musical, Hamilton, and more). After his studio closed in Fall 2023, I became the dyer at Parsons-Meares, Ltd. (The Lion King, Hadestown, The Great Gatsby, and more).
In addition to my Painter/Dyer work, I have a background in millinery from my graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and have built hats and headpieces at Jeff Fender Studio for Off-Broadway shows (Fairycakes) and Opera (Romeo and Juliet at Houston Grand Opera, Angélique at Manhattan School of Music, Sweet Potato Kicks the Sun at Santa Fe Opera). I also have a strong interest in fiber arts, and always have a knitting, crochet, embroidery, or beading project in the works.
Please get in touch if you have any questions--I would love to hear about your project!
